After rebuilding several farms, growing food and weathering changes in the world, we have arrived at a comfortable place. The techniques and skills we have learnt and put to practice have settled down to a timeless order of things; resilient to world changes and local weather events. We now offer advice on the skills, techniques and lessons learnt in our consultancies.
Each garden is its own place, shaped by what has come before it and by what is asked of it now.
The soil, the local climate, it’s history and the hands that tend it all bring their own conditions.
There is no fixed method or system that can be carried from one to another without change.
What will grow well, and what will fail, belongs to that particular ground.
Having built many vegetable gardens, and with a background in natural resource management and farming, I bring a grounded understanding to gardening.
My approach is to begin with sound foundations, and to work with simple, considered designs that build resilience into the garden over time.
Small farms can be built on 3 things, timing, design and an order to things. It is up to us to respect that each farm is infinitely unique
