The Little Garden Farm — a small garden and farm stay on Bruny Island where good soil, good food and a slower way of living are quietly taking root.
The Little Garden Farm is a small working garden and evolving orchard on South Bruny Island, Tasmania. The farm is gradually being restored to grow food, improve soil health and share ideas about resilient gardening and simple living.
Guests staying at the farm or the waterfront stay are welcome to explore the garden during their visit. At certain times we also offer small garden walks and practical workshops that share ideas about soil, food growing and ecological gardening.
Garden walks and workshops are relaxed, small gatherings where visitors can explore the garden and discuss topics such as soil ecology, worm farms, resilient garden design and growing vegetables for flavour.
Each session is slightly different depending on the season and what is happening in the garden at the time.
The garden is designed around low-input principles that focus on building soil health, encouraging biodiversity and growing food that tastes good rather than simply producing large yields.
The farm is also shaped by many years of experience in landscape restoration, re-vegetation, naturopathy and herbalism, broadacre farming and grazing and ecological design.
The Little Garden Farm is located on South Bruny Island, Tasmania, about 30 minutes south of the ferry terminal at Roberts Point. The property sits within a sheltered rural landscape close to the coast.
Yes. Visitors can stay in three accommodation options connected with the farm: the waterfront Cabin by the Sea – 15 mins away, Holly Tree Hut – on farm and The Woodlander campsite – on farm. Guests staying at either accommodation are welcome to visit the farm garden during their stay.
The garden produces a changing range of seasonal vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. A small orchard is also being established and will gradually begin producing fruit and berries in the coming years. We also have hens and quails producing fresh eggs for our guests.
