A Recent Visit From St Michaels Grammar

Earlier last month we welcomed two groups of students to the farm for a hands-on garden sessions — and it was one of those days that reminds us why we do this.

The focus was simple:

  • Understanding how food is grown
  • Getting hands in the soil
  • Seeing a working garden in progress (not perfection!)

We walked through the garden together, talked about soil, seasonal growing, markets and taste and how small systems can produce meaningful food and connect with local communities. The students got involved, asked lots of thoughtful questions, and engaged in a way that’s hard to replicate in a classroom.

What stood out most was the curiosity — and the conversations that followed.

We’ve since heard that both staff and students have been talking about the visit well after returning, which is exactly what these experiences are designed to do.

A genuine thank you

We’d like to thank the team at St Michael’s Grammar School for making the trip and for their generous program support donation, which directly contributes to the continued development of the farm garden and future learning experiences.

Looking ahead

These sessions are intentionally small, personal, and grounded in real farm life — no scripts, no staged setups. We have a mountain of hands on experience and knowledge in small farming and gardening and we use these experiences and stories to answer questions and guide the experience.

As the garden continues to evolve, so too will the experiences we offer.

We’re already looking forward to welcoming the next group.
