• Knife Making On The Farm By Merchant Pavy - Jardine

    KNIFE MAKER

Merchant has been steadily honing his knifemaking skills. What began with a simple Viking-style blade forged from an old railroad spike has, two years later, evolved into a collection of truly striking knives. Read on to see what he’s been crafting lately—

Work from the forge…
By Merchant

My time in the forge has recently been focused on further improving my heat treating process as I think it’s one of the most important areas of knifemaking to do well.
But aside from that, these are the most recent two knives to come out of the workshop.
Bottom left is a Santoku with a Tsuchime finish and an ebony, brass, and beech handle.
Santokus are a type of general purpose kitchen knife originating in Japan. Like a chefs knife but Japanese.

They can be used used for many tasks like slicing, chopping, and dicing on both vegetables and meats.
The knife at upper right is a general purpose camp knife and sheath for all the common tasks around the campsite.
The blade has a rock textured finish and the handle is blackwood with copper spacers and pins.
Both of these knives are made from start to finish by myself, as are all my other knives.
This includes any leather sheaths for said knives as well which I began creating in the workshop this year.
